Doane receives community service award

Michelle Doane has an uncanny ability to recognize what needs to be done, or what could be done, and then organize efforts to get it done. She’s not one to wait for others to step forward.

The principal auditor at ITD recently received the Association of Government Accountants Community Service (AGA) chapter award for her initiative, leadership and organizational skills – both personal and professional.

AGA is a national organization that focuses on advancing government accountability and "thought leadership." It serves government accountability professionals by providing quality education fostering professional development and certification, and supporting standards and research. It has a national office and 100 chapters with more than 15,000 members worldwide.

Idaho formed a state chapter in September 1989.

Doane has been an AGA member for many years and has served the past four years as an ITD auditor. While her professional skills are widely recognized inside ITD, Doane’s presence in the community is even more visible.

“Michelle has demonstrated a passion for volunteer work for many years,” explains Carri Rosti, manager of ITD’s office of Internal Review.

As community service chair for the Idaho chapter of AGA, Doane organized participation in the Adopt-A-Highway program, Adopt-A-Greenbelt, Rake Up Boise, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, fundraising for Idaho Public Television and many other activities.

“She has developed a vast network of friends and associates which extend far beyond our AGA chapter,” Rosti says. “Michelle has organized these individuals to assist her in volunteer activities. Individually, Michelle serves as the community service coordinator for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, is co-treasurer of Friends of the Boise Library and is president of the ITD employee fund, DoRolCo.”

Doane received the well-deserved recognition during a recent Idaho AGA chapter meeting.
