District 3 foreman recognized for 511 reporting efforts

The 511 Traveler Services system is an invaluable tool for the state’s motorists, offering timely updates on the highway conditions, detours and closures they may encounter while on the road. KNOW B4 U GO is not just a catchy 511 slogan that rhymes, but it is a sage piece of advice for drivers.

Brian Inwards, maintenance foreman for the Cascade/Banks area in District 3, recently was recognized for playing a vital behind-the-scenes role in the 511 system – providing the timely reports on which the system depends. From the last week in October to the first week in May (the winter reporting season as defined by 511), Inwards missed only 0.65 percent of his scheduled reports. He also ranked second among the 55 ITD reporting units statewide with that mark.

Inwards’ maintenance section runs from milepost 54 to 134 on Idaho 55, more than 160 lane miles from the base of Horseshoe Bend Hill at Spring Valley to Paddy Flat in Cascade.

Every ITD maintenance foreman area is required to submit scheduled updates to the 511 system and additional information if conditions change during the reporting period. The regular reporting schedule is twice per day on weekdays and once per day on weekends and holidays.

“I appreciate his dedication and commitment to updating highway travelers on road conditions,” said Tom Points, D-3’s operations manager. “I’m sure drivers do, too."
