Governor thanks ITD staff for work on dedication ceremony

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter declared the one-hour ceremony to dedicate ITD’s Headquarters the “Philip E. Batt Building” a resounding success.

The governor’s staff and ITD employees worked closely to stage the June 13 event to honor Gov. Batt’s many contributions to transportation in Idaho and more than three decades of public service. (See related story)

More than 200 people attended the ceremony in the front parking lot at Headquarters.

In a letter to ITD Director Brian Ness this week, Gov. Otter thanked ITD staff, saying “they did themselves proud.”

Dear Director Ness,

Please accept my congratulations and sincere thanks for the excellent event that the men and women of the Idaho Transportation Department conducted on Thursday, June 13, to dedicate the ITD Headquarters building in honor of Governor Philip E. Batt.

While General Manning and Jim Kempton did an outstanding job representing ITD during the ceremony, I know your staff did yeoman’s work behind the scenes to bring the event together so seamlessly and memorably. I know that Governor Batt and his family, as well as the many friends, colleagues and admirers who attended, were impressed and gratified by their professionalism and attention to detail.

Please extend my well-wishes and gratitude to all those who participated in this effort. They did ITD and themselves proud. Their work will be viewed for many years to come, and will stand as a lasting reminder of Phil Batt’s tremendous impact on transportation and public policy in Idaho.
