Lane closure avoided this week, maybe unavoidable later for JUMP

Crews working on an important portion of a state highway that terminates in downtown Boise avoided a closure this week, but as construction continues on a new building, they may not be able to avoid the next one.

One lane of Myrtle Street (U.S. 20/26) at 9th Street in downtown Boise would have closed overnight as crews begin pouring concrete in conjunction with the Simplot JUMP (Jack’s Urban Meeting Place) project that began in August 2012. That closure was avoided.

Crews may require two lanes to be closed later this fall, however, as a special crane will be used to swing huge trusses into place.

The JUMP project will feature a six-story multi-purpose center with more than three acres of green space for an urban park.
Crews will adhere to a 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. overnight work schedule.

McAlvain Construction, of Boise, is the primary sub-contractor for the concrete work. Hoffman Construction Co., of Portland, is the general contractor for the overall $70 million project.

Construction is scheduled to finish by the summer of 2014.
