ETS turns challenge into opportunity — $20,000 savings

Challenges often come with unexpected opportunities, as ITD’s Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) discovered recently. The result was significant savings in ongoing network costs and the satisfaction derived from achieving more with less.

“ETS continues to emphasize the department’s strategy of ‘Improving the effectiveness and efficiency of ITD operations,” said ETS Manager Shannon Barnes.

The challenge came when ETS looked for options to replace a communication circuit at the Division of Aeronautics. Costs to maintain the existing circuit were about $27,600 annually.

Opportunity came when ETS employees located a communications circuit with an annual cost of $7,600. That’s a savings of $20,000 annually – or more than 70 percent, without a reduction in performance, Barnes explained.

“Congratulations to the ETS Network Team for its ongoing efforts to improve the cost effectiveness of our information technology,” Barnes said.
