Lunches with a cultural twist arriving at Headquarters

Tired of peanut butter and jam sandwiches? Leftovers on the verge of being toxic? Onsite food vendors might provide the answer.

Josephine O’Connor and Maureen Gresham conceived the idea of inviting food-vending trucks to the ITD campus. The fruit of their labor was evident Thursday when the first vendor, the Kilted Kod, accepted orders for fish and chips or fried chicken.

The vendor will return on Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. indefinitely. Two other vendors have committed to sharing their cuisine on other days at the same location. Brown Suga, specializing in soul food, will set up in the parking lot on Wednesdays, and Cacicias Cucina, will offer Sicilian food on Tuesdays, beginning Aug. 20.

O’Connor said. Headquarters employees who would like to recommend other possible food vendors can contact her at 7-8112 to be put on a schedule.

Gordon Wilmoth, Mike Golden and Mary Harker worked on the proposal for several months to secure the necessary clearances.

Onsite vendors must provide proof of insurance and a city license to sell food at the HQ campus.
