TRB officials to visit ITD Wednesday

Representatives from the Transportation Research Board will meet with ITD officials next week to learn of the department’s recent initiatives and innovations, and to reinforce the ongoing partnership.

The annual TRB visit will be Wednesday (Aug. 28).

TRB is a division of the National Research Council and is charged with facilitating the exchange of transportation information and research results. TRB manages the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2), and several smaller cooperative research programs focusing on freight, transit, airports and hazardous-materials transportation.

Tom Palmerlee, associate division director for Data and Information Technology, and David Plazak, a senior program officer in the SHRP2 program, will meet with ITD staff throughout the day. The visit, coordinated by ITD’s Resource Center, will address a variety of topics including data information systems, performance measures, freight, economic analysis, travel demand modeling and asset management.

TRB representatives will also meet with ITD’s executive leadership team.

The visit will include discussions related to:

  • Problems/issues of current importance to ITD that TRB might be able to help address
  • Emerging and future problems/issues that TRB needs to focus on to provide value to the department, and
  • Suggestions for improving TRB services to the department
