Changing lives — Changing Idaho
Idaho State Employees Charitable Giving Campaign begins

Carla Anderson
The State Employees’ Charitable Giving Campaign begins Sunday (Sept. 1) and runs through Oct. 31. We have the opportunity each year to extend our public service commitment to help our neighbors and our communities every day, all year long.

Making a contribution is fast and convenient. The pledge form is located under the “Donate” tab on the State Campaign website at:  http://www.unitedwecare.idaho.gov.  It is an interactive form and can be printed; however, it can’t be saved. It is helpful to print two copies – one copy to be submitted to me and a second copy to retain for your tax records.

The state campaign website has a list of regional and national tax-exempt charitable organizations, or you may choose to contribute to a tax-exempt organization that is not on the list. If you choose one that is not listed, please include the organization name and contact information on the pledge form.

Payment options also are convenient. Contributors have the option of a one-time contribution (cash/check), receiving a statement (monthly, quarterly, or other frequency) from United Way, or having a payroll deduction (first, second or every pay period) through the state payroll system.

There will be fundraising activities for you to participate in at Headquarters and the district offices. Last year, ITD donated $18,165 to United Way. With your help, we can make this year’s campaign even better.

As your campaign coordinator, I am here to help you with questions and contributions, so please contact me if I can assist in any way.

Each contribution is important, and I want to thank you in advance for your consideration of this opportunity to help others.

Gov. Butch C.L. “Butch” Otter
As Idahoans, we have the great fortune of living in a beautiful state filled with vibrant communities. As public servants, we spend our days serving our fellow citizens to the best of our abilities. I am particularly proud that our state employees share in common the commitment to making an impact by giving to the annual charitable giving campaign.

I have seen firsthand how our efforts help change the lives of our fellow Idahoans. From the smiles of children prepared to enter pre-K programs, to women who now are safe and independent but once lived in shelters to escape domestic violence, we see how charitable giving can make a difference in the life of an individual, or a family.

As the 2013 campaign kicks off, I personally invite you to join me in supporting the United Way and the many worthy organizations in need of our help. Fill out your pledge card today, and join me in helping those in need.

Investing in meaningful organizations plants the seed from which our society will grow stronger, and your generosity benefits us all. Thank you for caring about the future of our great State of Idaho.

Don Drum
Executive Director
PERSI
State Campaign Chairman

It is my honor to serve as the campaign chair for the 2013 State Employees’ Charitable Giving Campaign (SEC). Giving is a personal choice. If you choose to support the United Way through the SEC, I don’t think you will regret it. It is a decision you can feel good about because it has the potential to change someone’s life.

The United Way strategically focuses on education, income and health -- key building blocks for a good life. State workers have always been generous because we understand the role charities play in improving the lives of our fellow citizens…and when lives change, everyone in the community benefits. The money raised through the SEC can make a difference to someone who is struggling financially or to a child with a disability. Your monetary gift will touch the lives of many individuals and families. Your support can move someone from barely surviving to succeeding.

Life is about choices; but poverty or illness is not something anyone chooses. However, today you can choose to support the United Way through the SEC campaign. I assure you, your pledge to the “Changing Lives, Changing Idaho” campaign, which runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, will make a difference.

The state sponsors a giving campaign each year because so many people are in need...and everyone has a stake in making Idaho a better place to live. It is such a privilege to work alongside the thousands of dedicated, hard-working men and women employed by the State of Idaho. I can only hope none of us ever needs the assistance of United Way charities; but if we do, it’s nice to know Idaho citizens have always cared enough to help others. Please choose to support the SEC by completing your pledge card today.

Thank you for your generosity and for caring about your fellow Idahoans!
