Leadership Summit to set course for ITD's future

ITD employees from throughout the state will assemble in Boise Tuesday, Oct. 1, to learn how they can become better leaders and help shape the department's future.

The second annual Leadership Summit will begin in the Riverside Hotel at 7:30 a.m. and feature internal and external presenters. Their collective message is intended to prepare and encourage leaders and aspiring leaders.

National transportation authority Dr. Tom DeCoster will be among the featured speakers. A professor emeritus at Indiana University, DeCoster will present “Five Mile Markers to Leadership Success.” He is a widely sought consultant on national transportation issues and policies, organizational change and leadership.

Leon Rice, in his fourth year as the Boise State University men’s basketball coach, will talk about qualities that lead to team success during the morning session. Last spring, the coach took BSU to the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament; the Broncos finished with a 21-11 record. He is a former assistant coach at Gonzaga University, a perennial college basketball power, located in Spokane.

The morning session also will include “Getting to Know You,” by ITD training specialist Treven Farrow; a video, “Do You Want to be an Air Dog or a Carver?” a summit challenge by ITD Director Brian Ness, and messages by Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Jerry Whitehead; and Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little.

  • Getting to the Blue: Building a Constructive Culture,” Jim Johnson, Managing Partner, Level Three Performance Solutions; and Jay Otto, managing director, Center for Health and Safety Culture, Montana State University
