Young artists encouraged to enter aviation contest

Fascination with flight usually begins at an early age, as art projects often demonstrate. Pencil drawings of World War I biplanes, sketches of F-14 fighter jets, the Hindenburg, the space shuttle … all capture the imagination of young artists.

A contest sponsored by ITD’s Division of Aeronautics will give students a venue for expressing their artistic talents and love of aircraft this fall. The 2013 Idaho Aviation Art Contest welcomes submissions in three categories: Kindergarten through fourth grade; fifth grade through eighth grade and ninth grade through 12th grade.

The contest is for two-dimensional color, black-and-white, technical drawings (schematics), or painting (including water color, oil and other media.) Submissions must not exceed 11 inches by 14 inches and must be received by the Division of Aeronautics by Nov. 22.

Students my send submissions to the Division of Aeronautics, Aviation Safety and Education, 3483 Rickenbacker St., Boise, ID, 83705.

Winners in each of the three categories will receive a round-trip flight from their hometown to Boise, or a flight from Boise. They also will receive an award and certificate of achievement presented by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter.

Students and their parents will tour the Capitol and have lunch in downtown Boise. ITD will notify winners

An award and certificate of achievement signed by the governor will be mailed to students who finish in second and third place.

  • Name

  • Complete mail address
  • Home telephone number or parent’s cell hone number
  • School name and full address
