D-2 welcomes Dave Kuisti home as district engineer

ITD announced this week the selection of Dave Kuisti as District 2 Engineer, succeeding Jim Carpenter who held the position the past 19 years. Kuisti will assume his new duties Nov. 4.

"Pat Lightfield filled in well during the interim, and I want to thank him for continuing his faithful service to the district," said Carpenter, ITD’s Chief Operations Officer.

“Dave has the experience and energy to be an outstanding district engineer and will do a great job in Lewiston. I look forward to having him on our team and working with him on projects in District 2 and across the state.”

Kuisti has been an ITD engineer since 1990. He joined the department after earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Idaho in Moscow. Before getting his degree, Kuisti worked as a summer employee for ITD, preparing for a career in engineering.

He began that career in 1991 in District 1 as part of the Engineer in Training program.

After receiving his professional engineer’s license, Dave was assigned to District 2 in
1993 as a project engineer. He relocated to Lucille where he managed construction of the complex Goff (Time Zone) Bridge, a critical transportation link for north-south traffic on U.S. 95.

Kuisti became a resident engineer in 1998, a project development engineer in 2001, and in 2006 accepted the position of assistant district engineer in District 3.

“I am confident that, under Dave’s leadership, transportation will continue to play a key role in developing and growing the region’s economy,” Carpenter said. “We face a number of transportation challenges in District 2, and Dave is well prepared to help us tackle those challenges.”
