Penny campaign launched to help injured football player

What can you get for a penny? No such thing as penny candy anymore. And because of inflation, a “penny for your thoughts,” has jumped to at least a dollar.

But a penny, multiplied many times over, can provide financial relief for a Kuna High School football player and his family.
ITD is holding a penny drive to raise money for Boone Bartlome, a junior, who broke his neck during a high school football game on Nov 8. All proceeds from the special collection will go toward medical expenses incurred by the Bartlome family.

Costs are mounting because of a minimum hospital stay of six weeks, time in the intensive care unit, physical therapy and home recovery.

All proceeds from the penny jars will be deposited in the “Benefit Boone” fund at US Bank.

Pennies will be collected through Dec. 31.  Employees who can give more than a copper coin can drop other change in the jars along with currency. No donations will be turned away.

Jars will be emptied weekly, but if you see a full jar please e-mail Ashley.winterroth@itd.idaho.gov or rachelle.swanson@itd.idaho.gov

Penny drives have been used across the country as an easy way to raise money for a good cause. There are about 15 jars resting on counters and desks through the Headquarters, so check under your car seat, in your couch cushions, cupboard jars, desk drawers, spare purses … anywhere you might have deposited the coins.

Let’s watch the investment in Boone’s recovery grow while watching him recover.
