District 3's legendary spirit of giving puts smiles on children

The spirit of generosity is rampant at ITD, especially this time of year, and the Christmas luncheon at District 3 on Thursday (Dec. 12) was a prime example. As it has done in the pasts, the district donated several large boxes of new, unwrapped toys to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation.

A pair of large donation boxes in the District 3 main lobby and by the maintenance office were filled by employees in December and handed off to a uniformed Marine from the Glenwood Fire Station. They enjoyed the district’s Christmas lunch before the exchange.

Janet Gregory, office manager for D-3 Maintenance, MOM by title, has been involved with the effort the past 12 years.

“The employees at District 3 feel that Christmas is for the kids, so this is our small way to give back to them,” Gregory said.

“We really enjoy gathering the toys each year and have a great time looking at the stuffed animals and ‘ooh-ing and ahh-ing’ over all the cool stuff. We are all small kids at heart.”

The toy-distribution effort began in December 1947 by a retired USMC reservist in Los Angeles.
