McCarty assumes additional role as acting communications manager

Mollie McCarty, ITD's Governmental Affairs manager, assumed additional responsibilities this week as acting manager of the Office of Communications.

She will oversee daily operations of both the communications office and its staff in the absence of Jeff Stratten, who is on extended leave. McCarty will continue to represent the department during the legislative session in her role as manager of the Governmental Affairs office.

Chief Deputy Scott Stokes announced the temporary assignment this week.

"I am confident that our communications staff will continue to serve the department and the public without missing a beat," Stokes said. "One of ITD's strength is flexibility – being able to step up when unexpected circumstances arise. We are fortunate to have talented employees who are capable and willing to maintain our momentum.

"We look forward to Jeff's return as manager of the Communications Office."

Responding to information requests is fundamental to both Governmental Affairs and Communications offices, McCarty explained. The staffs will work collaboratively, when appropriate, to serve the needs of external customers, including policymakers, the governor's staff, the news media and the public.

She expects minor adjustments in communications staff assignments but no changes in the office's primary role, which is to represent the department to both external and internal customers.

McCarty will continue to represent ITD throughout the legislative process, working with legislators and ITD subject matter experts who often are called on to provide information.
