Phone system upgrade planned for President's Day weekend

While many ITD employees will enjoy a long President's Day weekend (Feb. 14-17), a major upgrade to the phone system will be underway at the same time.

Enterprise Technology Services, district IT staff and a local vendor will begin upgrading the department's phone system at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb.14, and continue through Monday, Feb. 17. The phone system, including voice mail, will be down for extended periods during that time.

The upgrade is needed to keep ITD's phone system software capable of being supported, explained Project Manager Dave Merriweather.

"The version of software we are currently using is near end-of-support by the vendor, so we must upgrade," Merriweather said.

Division of Motor Vehicles Call Center software also will be upgraded during the long weekend because the DMV Call Center software must stay current with the rest of the department's phone system software.

"If all goes well, the phone system and DMV Call Center should be fully operational when everyone comes back to work Tuesday morning," Merriweather said.
