Semi turnover on I-84 creates Twinkie/Applesauce mishmash

A semi crash on Interstate 84 near New Plymouth in the early afternoon of March 26 created a culinary curiosity, as the load of Twinkies mixed with a load of apples, which became applesauce in the crash.

A semi headed east carrying a load of apples drifted through the median and struck a westbound semi carrying Twinkies. The wreckage at Exit 9 closed the westbound lanes for approximately four hours.

Although ITD's New Plymouth maintenance shop and Incident Response teams responded to the event to provide traffic-control services, no one performed a taste test on the new creation. Rumors of a pending patent on this delicacy were unconfirmed at press time.

Fortunately, there were no significant human injuries reported in the crash. Both drivers were treated and released that same day, according to Idaho State Police.
