Stay safe when using the Internet with new training opportunity

“Securing the Human” is a new training opportunity launching this month designed to help people stay safe when they use Internet services at work and at home. The training is sponsored by ITD’s Cyber Security Team and will help provide ways to better protect work-related and personal information when online.

The goal of “Securing the Human” is to strengthen the human link in computer and network environments that will help secure ITD and provide department employees valuable skills for staying safer online at home.

“The thing I’ve learned in cyber security is that the human is the weakest link,” said Barton Phelps, IT systems security analyst.

The training will cover a variety of topics, including how to help families stay safer online. Training modules are three to five minutes in length and include quizzes, awareness surveys and assessments meant to test understanding. Some of the modules will be mandatory and require successful completion.  Other training modules are optional, but made available for personal development.

Modules successfully completed will be added to employee transcripts in the Learning Hub.

“User education is a major piece of any successful cyber security program,” Phelps explained. “We hope people get a lot of helpful information from this training and we look forward to seeing the results.”

For questions about the training or suggestions about how to improve it, contact ITD Cyber Security at 334-8158 or by email at ITDCyberSecurity@itd.idaho.gov.

“We are always trying to improve the cyber security program at ITD in order to best serve our customers, and we appreciate feedback,” said Phelps.
