Idaho's Interstate 84 to be named Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway

Interstate 84, from Idaho’s Oregon border to its Utah border, will officially be named the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway at a ceremony on the Statehouse steps in Boise Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m.

The bill for the highway designation was introduced to the Idaho Legislature on Jan. 22 and signed by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter on Feb. 20. It became effective on July 1.

Sen. Lee Heider, Twin Falls, sponsored the bill and helped to get it passed. The I-84 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway begins in Oregon and will run through Idaho. There are plans to eventually continue the designation into Utah.

This year commemorates the 50th year for Vietnam War veterans who are honored for their service, valor and sacrifice.
