Traffic Incident Management training scheduled for October

ITD and the Federal Highway Administration are co-sponsoring the first statewide Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training for agencies that respond to emergencies on Idaho roadways.

Training is scheduled Oct 7, 8 at the Riverside Hotel in Boise. The first day runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The workshop resumes at 8 a.m. the following day and will conclude at noon.

The free 12-hour training is intended for transportation personnel, law enforcement, fire departments, tow-and rescue-truck operators, and emergency medical responders.

ITD encourages maintenance foreman and other maintenance workers from all six districts to attend and become familiar with the TIM program. Developed as a “train-the-trainer” event, attendees are encouraged to take training principles back to their jurisdictions and teach their peers and other responders in their communities.

Attendees will need to arrange for travel and lodging. A special hotel rate is being offered Oct. 6 and 7 at a per diem rate of $83 a night.

An optional half-day of hazmat awareness training also will be offered on Oct. 8, beginning at 1 p.m.

Your Economic Opportunity.” Effective traffic incident management improves highway safety, enhances the mobility of all users, and supports the state’s economy by keeping commerce moving.

Nearly 80 individuals from transportation departments, law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical crews are hit and killed every year while responding to crashes on U.S. highways and bridges, according to the FHWA.

Multi-disciplinary training along with a coordinated approach by all responders helps make roadways safer for all users.
