Free workshops in north and north-central Idaho show how to do business with the government

Learn basic guidelines for doing business with the government at free workshops planned for north and north-central Idaho Nov. 4-7. The workshops are detailed below:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Labor, 613 Ridley Village Road, Ste. C, Sandpoint
  • Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Labor, 35 Wildcat Way, Ste. A, Kellogg
  • Thursday, Nov. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Labor, 305 N. State Street, Grangeville
  • Friday, Nov. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Labor, 1158 Idaho Street, Lewiston

The program will feature presenters from the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), the Idaho Department of Commerce, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Participants will get an overview on bidding with the state of Idaho, requirements for bidding as a federal contractor, how business certifications can give an advantage and services available, like free bid matching.

Other topics to be covered include how to learn about government contracts and how to compete for them, the difference between state and federal contracting, understanding the U.S. Department of Transportation's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, 8(a) Business Development Program, HUBZone Certification, other business certifications and where to go for assistance.
