Board’s January business meeting will include a revenue workshop

Transit projects, a Lewiston partnership, trucking council membership and a revenue workshop will lead the Idaho Transportation Board's agenda when the group meets Jan. 21-22 at Idaho Transportation Department Headquarters in Boise.

Transit vehicle replacement projects
The Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho is requesting the addition of three new transit projects in FY15 and FY16. Federal Transit Administration funds would be used to replace vehicles for the Parma Senior Center, the Kuna Senior Center, and the Melba Senior Center. Two of the vehicles are expected to cost $42,000 and the third one is budgeted at $48,000.

Lewiston partnership project
The board will also be asked to approve funding for a project in Lewiston.

The city of Lewiston, the Lewiston School District, and Lewis Clark State College have been working on extending an existing trail and sidewalk system in Lewiston. A savings was realized on Phase I of the project, so the partners would like to proceed with Phase II, which includes construction of 350 feet of 10-foot-wide sidewalk along an undeveloped portion of 11th Street for $27,000.

Trucking Advisory Council membership
The board established the Trucking Advisory Council (TAC) to assist and advise it on issues of safety, mobility, and economic vitality of the trucking industry and on policies concerning freight transportation, trucking safety, and services in Idaho.

The TAC is comprised of seven members - one member for each of the six Transportation Department districts plus one member to serve as Chair.

Staff will be recommending the appointment of Frank Buell to represent District 1 on the TAC through December 2017. Mr. Buell is associated with Jack Buell Trucking, a privately-held company based in St. Maries that transports wood products and provides lowboy services for large equipment.

Workshop on revenue
The board's activities will actually start Jan. 21 with a workshop on revenue. The Idaho Transportation Coalition will lead the discussions. The Coalition has been actively involved in securing additional funding for the state's surface transportation system.
