District 5 recognized for contributions to charitable-giving campaign

In late January, ITD’s District 5 employees were recognized for going above and beyond — nearly twice the stated goal — in the annual State Employees Charitable Giving Campaign. Going the Distance, as the award from United Way said.

Through payroll deductions, fundraisers and special events during the last few months of the 2014 year, District 5 employees contributed more than $4,300 by year’s end, well above the $2,500 goal.

“This honor however was not for our innovations, nor for a state-of-the-art bridge we built,” said ITD Technical Records Specialist Gina Hall, who served as campaign coordinator and co-chair of United Ways Charitable Giving Campaign for Southeastern Idaho. “It was to celebrate how we impacted the lives of hundreds of people in southeast Idaho through our contributions.”

“This proves once again that through our employees’ generosity, and sense of community, we can and do make a difference where we live and work,” she added. “Because at the end of the day, it isn’t really about a modern idea or a road we drive on. It’s about people helping people, and in D5, that’s what we do.”

Hall has been State Charitable Giving Campaign coordinator in District 5 for more than 16 years, and state campaign co-chair for United Way of Southeastern Idaho for several of those years. "At the end of each campaign, the kindness and generosity expressed by our employees that donate never ceases to amaze me," she said.

"We sometimes think our contributions aren't enough, because what good could a dollar or two every few weeks possibly do, or we think we'll never need to utilize the services that local agencies provide. But then we consider the employees that are Boy or Girl Scout leaders, or have a child involved in Scouts. We ask if we've ever donated a can of food to the Idaho Food Bank, or had a relative receive meals from SEICAA's Meals on Wheels program. Then we begin to understand the power that our contributions have, and our employees not only step up to plate to donate, they hit it out of the park each and every time."
