Salmon River Narrows project resumes April 1

As road work resumes on a short section of Idaho 75 between Stanley and Challis, drivers can once again expect delays and daily closures for the final months of reconstruction and paving, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Work to complete excavation and construction of the roadway begins on Wednesday as the contractor enters the final few months of work. The multi-year, multi-stage project has included rock scaling, rock anchoring and slope netting, and wall construction to reconstruct and protect the roadway between mileposts 205 and 207, also known as the Narrows section.

Daily closures through the construction zone will be used to expedite the work. The construction zone will be closed to all through traffic from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Wednesday. The daily closures will end on May 15.

Outside of closure times, delays of up to 15 minutes may be expected. The roadway through the construction zone is limited to one lane with traffic signals or flaggers controlling traffic. The contractor plans to work nights and Saturdays.

The highway project has been a partnership between the Federal Highway Administration – Western Federal Lands Division, ITD and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Work is expected to be complete in August.
