Next stage of I-90 Pinehurst bridges project underway

Work has begun on the westbound portion of the reconstruction of the Interstate 90 bridges at Pinehurst. The eastbound portion was rebuilt last year. The project is expected to finish in early October.

The structures, over Silver Valley Road (Old U.S. 10) and the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes in Pinehurst, will essentially extend the merge lane, which should reduce crashes on this section of road.

Both the eastbound and westbound sides will be restricted to one lane during this Stage 2 work, which is located on I-90 near milepost 45. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.

Eastbound and westbound traffic was rerouted on to the eastbound lanes in mid-March, and will remain that way for the duration of the construction season. During that time, the westbound bridge will be demolished and the westbound off-ramp to Pinehurst will be closed.

A detour for the off-ramp is located at the Smelterville Interchange (#48), just to the east. Traffic on the local road will be reduced to one lane and will have flaggers or a temporary signal controlling traffic flow through the project site.

Wadsworth Brothers Construction, of Draper, Utah, is the contractor on this $11.3 million project.
