ITD and FHWA bicyclists tackle Bogus Basin hill at annual climb

Bicyclists from Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) pedaled their way from Boise to Bogus Basin during a hill climb Saturday, June 6.

In previous years, the annual event has also included participants from the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council and (LHTAC) and the Ada County Highway District (ACHD).

“We left at 8:30 a.m. and enjoyed near perfect weather -- it was sunny and pleasant,” explained Ken Angell, with ITD. “Everyone made it to the top in good condition, with smiles on their faces despite climbing 3,500 feet.”

“Chuck Keshian, Greg Laragan and I pedaled on up to the upper lodge just to get the extra exercise – and extra 700 feet of climbing,” Angell said.

He added that nothing too exciting happened, which was a good thing, and that there were a lot of dead snakes on the road . . . “which was OK, because that is just the way I like ‘em.”

Lance Johnson, with FHWA, and his wife Vicky grappled with a flat tire, but still finished ahead of some others.
