The article details steps Ness has taken since he arrived in January 2010 to elevate ITD, first within the state and then beyond Idaho’s borders. His goal is to make ITD the best transportation department in the country.

“When Brian started at ITD, the department was at one of its lowest point in terms of public confidence and our perception in the eyes of state lawmakers,” said Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Jerry Whitehead. “He has worked tirelessly to rebuild those relationships with accountability, and his efforts have been instrumental in elevating ITD to a position of trust.”

He realigned the agency to save millions of dollars that translated to an additional $180 million in new projects added to the state's five-year transportation program. Under Ness' leadership, ITD has earned more than 160 state, regional and national awards and honors.

Ness has spent the last year as the vice president of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO), an 18-state coalition of western state DOTs.
