East Boise gateway interchanges dedicated Sept. 15

With completion of both the Broadway and Gowen Interchanges in east Boise on the near horizon, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce and Treasure Valley leaders commemorated the occasion with a dedication ceremony on Sept. 15. Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, Lieutenant Governor Brad Little, and ITD District Three Board Member Julie DeLorenzo (pictured at lectern, above) and other community and business leaders spoke during the ceremony near the Broadway Interchange.

ITD rebuilt Broadway Avenue at Interstate 84 into a Single-Point Urban Interchange (SPUI), similar to the design at Vista Avenue and Ten Mile Road. A new diamond interchange replaced the previous one at Gowen Road. Longer, wider ramps were built at both to allow traffic more room for merging on and off the interstate. Curb, gutter, sidewalk and bicycle lanes were also added on Broadway Avenue and Gowen Road to safely accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists.

“I-84 in the east Treasure Valley is the gateway to Boise, BSU and our vibrant downtown area,” said Bill Connors, president of Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce. “These two new interchanges will meet our transportation needs and position the entire community for further economic growth and prosperity.”

The two newly rebuilt interchanges and widened interstate will increase capacity, improve safety and enhance the flow of traffic of I-84 in east Boise.
