Cottonwood Career Expo showcases D2’s best recruiting pitch

The 2015 Career Expo in Cottonwood Oct. 7 featured many of ITD’s best, as the district put together a variety of department initiatives designed to introduce students to possible careers in transportation.

Rick Vance, Tony Westfall and Steve Momont (pictured left to right) from the Craigmont Maintenance shed were on hand to show the 400-500 high school students equipment and guide them through a makeshift course. Joe Tamasco (D5 trainer) brought the snowplow simulator, and he teamed with Frank Allen (D2 trainer) to help students experience driving a snowplow and loader.

This marked the third time District 2 had participated in the Cottonwood event.

"The Cottonwood Career Expo has been very well received by high school-aged students," said D2 Engineering Manager Doral Hoff. "The hands-on experiences they receive provide the students a practical inside view of the sophisticated equipment that our transportation technicians deal with daily. In conjunction with the Career Expo, the students get an appreciation for what ITD is and what we do – a double win."

Sue Bryson, the HR associate for both D4 and D2, handed out ITD information and trinkets and talked to students.

“Hopefully, I gave them enough information on ITD careers that we will see some of them in the future,” Bryson said.  “It was a great experience and well worth the time to participate. I will certainly look forward to the next one!”
