Broadway Bridge closes during replacement starting in January
Open House set Dec. 2

Early next year, the Idaho Transportation Department will begin construction on Broadway Avenue between University Drive and Front Street. From January until fall 2016, crews will work to remove and replace the Broadway Bridge, over the Boise River, and rebuild this section of Broadway Avenue.

During construction, Broadway Avenue will be fully closed between Cesar Chavez Lane and Myrtle Street. The bridge structure itself will also be fully closed during that time. Motorists will be detoured around the work zone via the Parkcenter Bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists will also be detoured to cross the river at the Parkcenter Bridge, as well as Friendship Bridge near Julia Davis Park.

The Broadway Bridge is being replaced because the existing structure does not meet today’s standards. ITD has worked with the community to gather input on design plans since the project began in 2012. The bridge replacement will give ITD an opportunity to enhance the structure by adding more lanes, sidewalks, bicycle facilities, and stairs and ramps to the Greenbelt.

ITD will host a public open house for this project on Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Washington Group Plaza (720 Park Blvd.). The open house will provide the community an opportunity to view final design plans and learn about upcoming construction.
