Demolition of Broadway Bridge underway

Crews began demolition of the bridge over the Boise River Jan. 4, kicking off the nine-month-long project to replace the old 1956 structure. The process of removing the existing bridge will take about 20 days to complete, followed immediately by work to build the new structure.

A construction camera of the work zone has been set up at: http://ibeamsystems.com/private/idbroadway/. The camera updates every ten minutes.

Environmental efforts are also being used to reduce impact to the river.

“The Boise River under the bridge has been channeled, which will allow debris to fall safely to the ground, rather than into the water,” said ITD Construction Manager Merrill Sharp. “Crews will clear away debris as each section of the bridge is demolished, and the contractor will fully restore the riverbed.”

Knife River Corporation is the contractor on the project.
