Elk City landslide obliterates previous ITD social-media records

Much like the slide itself obliterated the previous mountainside, the visuals completely demolished existing ITD social-media records.

Two aerial pictures posted in the aftermath of the Idaho 14 landslide that brought down thousands of tons of debris to the highway have so far generated nearly 375,000 views on ITD’s Facebook page, easily outpacing any previous record.

Counting both Facebook and Twitter, pictures and video from the slide have generated more than 467,000 views, with nearly 4,400 shares and retweets.

Pictures from the massive avalanche on Idaho 21 in the spring of 2014 set the previous record, at just under 15,000 views.
ITD joined the world of social media in the summer and early fall of 2009 with the launch of the department's Facebook and Twitter accounts. Since then, there have been more than 6,500 Twitter and Facebook posts, along with hundreds of "likes," "shares," "re-tweets," and indications that other people are engaged with ITD's site.
