Time will leap forward Sunday

Beginning Sunday, there will be an additional hour of daylight for yard work. That may be good news. That may be bad news.

Either way you look at it, the arrival of Daylight Saving Time early Sunday will mean more sunlight in the evening and less in the morning. Purists will mark the occasion by setting their clocks ahead one hour at 2 a.m. For the rest of us, it probably means making a sweep of the house before bedtime Saturday night, and adjusting automobile clocks the next time we drive.

A customary practice also is to conduct a semiannual test of all smoke-alarm batteries to ensure they function properly. It is advised to replace batteries every time clocks change in the fall and spring.
