ITD: 600 awards/honors…and counting

From its beginnings in 1974, when the agency officially became the Idaho Transportation Department, to today, ITD has been home to many honors, innovations and milestones. Along the way, the department has amassed 600 awards or honors, including a record-setting 53 last year alone.

Not long after the name change to ITD from Idaho Division of Highways, the first award came in, an Award of Excellence from the Portland Cement Association for the Bliss Interchange on Interstate 84. I-84 was known at the time, and it reads on the award, as I-80 North. The final award of 2015, given last December, was a Quality in Paving award for the Lewiston Hill project from the National Asphalt Paving Association. In between, ITD has won 13 AASHTO President’s Awards since the first one in 1993, and 32 other AASHTO awards.
