ITD presents career options at Lewiston High School April 12

Careers with the Idaho Transportation Department took center stage at Lewiston High School April 12 as several employees from ITD's District 2 office presented during the school's "career awareness hour" put on through the Idaho Department of Labor.

A group of 56 students, grades 10-12, heard District 2 employees Eric Nelson, JR Grotjohn and Sue Bryson make short presentations about jobs at ITD, including career opportunities, benefits, and how to apply for positions. ITD presented for 20 minutes, with a five-minute questions-and-answers portion for students following the talk.

Grotjohn and Nelson discussed the TTO Horizontal Career Path with the student's while Bryson focused on the Human Resources aspect.

"JR and Eric did an awesome job talking about what they do and the opportunities they have received as an ITD employee," said Bryson. "You never really know if you touched any of the students, but if we had an impact on even a few, it was well worth the time and effort."

Forty-six major employers in the area made presentations, reaching more than 1,000 students with career information.

"We heard a lot of great feedback from both students and teachers and we also realize we have some changes to make! We would appreciate any feedback – positive or constructive – that you could provide to help us build a more effective event next year," wrote Dept. of Labor Workforce Development Programs Specialist Diane Hairston.

"Employers like you help pave the way for our future workforce and we appreciate that!"
