ITD’s Karsann promotes wildflowers and litter control
at Coeur d’Alene’s Earth Day celebration April 24

Robin Karsann, District 1's Adopt-A-Highway coordinator, represented ITD's northern Idaho office on its Earth Day, celebration April 24 at the Coeur d'Alene library. There were many informational packets, color books,"Click it, Don't Risk it!" trash bags and additional information on ITD's Operations Wildflower program. There was a lot of information sharing, and the district received five new applications and a review of the website as well.

Volunteers (including the Sheriff’s Labor Force) in District 1 have already picked up more than 52,500 pounds of litter (25.7 tons) through April 29. This includes 425 volunteers who collectively have spent 1,159 hours picking up litter along northern Idaho right-of-ways. In addition, 12 more organizations have scheduled pick-up through May 2016, according to Karsann.

In addition to the Adopt-A-Highway program application packet, a newly designed wildflower flyer has been added to District 1’s application packet to encourage new volunteers to consider getting involved with spring or fall plantings. With additional work in the area of wildflower plantings are being discussed. Karsann also wanted to extend thanks to ITD’s Roadside Vegetation Program Manager, Cathy Ford, for her help with the Operation Wildflower Program.

“It’s great to work for an agency that takes to heart the well-being of our beautiful state, and it is very encouraging to know that we have so many dedicated volunteers who choose to make a difference – one to two miles at a time,” Karsann explained.
