“Building Castles for a Cause” wins AAMVA community service award

“Building Castles for a Cause,” an initiative last summer from ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles to benefit the Idaho Foodbank, won an AAMVA regional award May 12 for community service.

DMV Administration hosted a food drive June 8-12, 2015, culminating in a competition in which six different sections built castles out of the donations. A Foodbank representative judged the castles, and commented that it was one of the largest business contributions she had seen made to the Idaho Foodbank.

The team decided to organize the food drive as they sought ways to make a difference not only at work, and also in their community. They wanted to find a fun way to encourage employees to work as a team while encouraging co-workers to see the community needs that surround them on a daily basis.

Research indicated that the Foodbank is most in need of donations in May and June. Beyond food, donations also included personal hygiene products.

Every pound of food raised provided 2.5 meals, so it was estimated that this fundraiser provided approximately 1,000 meals for people in Idaho.
