ITD’s Public Transportation office visited eastern Idaho in mid-July, conducting several inspections of purchased capital, such as the large START bus pictured.
The visit also included meeting with Wilmer Brown, one of the users of the public-transit system that serves Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. For the last three years, Wilmer has been a resident of the skilled nursing facility that is attached to the hospital.
The PT office recently helped purchase an ADA-accessible van for both the hospitals and attached senior living center. ADA stands for Americans with Disabilities Act.
Wilber thanked them for the vehicle and the accessibility it has provided to him and others at the hospital to attend social outings, visit family, or go to funerals.
“In the past 18 months, we have continued to stress the idea of “What Have You Done for the Public Today?” explained ITD Public Transportation Manager Mark Bathrick. “It is gratifying to see that our efforts truly are adding value to the lives of these users.”
