Public comment sought on location of ITD south-central district facility

The Idaho Transportation Department is taking public comment regarding a facilities report for the District 4 administrative building, located in Shoshone. Through Oct. 28, the public is invited to comment on the substance of the report and potential locations of the administration building.

The study does not recommend a specific location for a facility, but provides the impacts to the existing District 4 workforce, potential labor pool, and economic impacts to Shoshone and other possible locations.

ITD is considering remodeling or replacing the existing administrative building, which was constructed in 1955. ITD performed the efficiency and economic analysis to evaluate construction versus lease options and investigate possible locations for the District 4 office.

The report was presented to the Idaho Transportation Board at its September meeting but a decision about construction plans and location of the district office is being held until the plan was presented to the public and ITD employees.

ITD is making the final report available for review and is accepting comments about its conclusions. The report and information about how to comment are available on the ITD website at http://itd.idaho.gov/projects/D4/index.html and at the following locations:

- ITD District 4 Office, 216 South Date, Shoshone
- ITD Twin Falls Residency Office, 626 Eastland Avenue South, Twin Falls
- Shoshone City Hall, 207 South Rail Street West, Shoshone

The study was completed by Richard Gardner of Bootstrap Solutions in Emmett. The conclusions of the study show the benefits of constructing a new facility over remodeling and ownership versus leasing. The report provides data about current employees, investigates central locations of the district, and gives economic figures of the local benefit of the facility.

The district will complete a final report and provide a location recommendation for the consideration of the Idaho Transportation Board at its November meeting.
