Gold Fork River Bridge replacement nears completion south of Donnelly

A design-build process was used to fast track the replacement of the Gold Fork River Bridge on Idaho 55 south of Donnelly. The bridge opened to traffic on Oct. 14 — designed and built in just six months — on schedule and under budget.

It replaced the previous bridge built in 1947 (pictured below).  It is longer (151 feet long vs. 137 before) with safe, modern guardrail and new approaches from the roadway on each end of the new structure. It features two 12-foot lanes and a 10-foot shoulder and was built to withstand high flows from the Gold Fork River.

Crews continue to remove the temporary bridge that was used during construction. This will continue through late October.

Concrete Placing Company chose to build the temporary bridge, which kept traffic moving smoothly through construction.
