Commercial
carrier seminars planned statewide Changing national security has ushered in an era of new state and federal regulations that affect commercial truck drivers and operators of trucking companies in Idaho. The Idaho Transportation Departments Motor Carrier Services office will conduct a series of seminars entitled "A Whole New World of Service" throughout the state this fall to explain regulations that affect commercial truck drivers and operators of trucking companies. Changes in national security following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. prompted new regulations for hazardous materials carriers. As required by the USA PATRIOT Act, Idaho passed new legislation that requires background checks for anyone who renews, transfers, or is issued a new Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a hazardous materials endorsement after Jan. 31, 2005. Those changes are among the topics to be covered in the workshop series scheduled for the following locations and dates:
Copies of the 2004-2005 Truckers Guide, published by the DMVs One-Stop Shop, will be available free at the seminars. A number of other organizations will present information at the seminar, including ITDs Driver Services and Ports of Entry/Permits, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Idaho State Police and the Idaho Tax Commission. The seminars are appropriate for all trucking company owners and staff, trucking company accountants and bookkeepers, haul-for-hire, private or farm haulers, reporting services and owner/operators. Among the topics to be covered are:
There is no cost for the seminar, but individuals planning to participate are asked to complete a registration form and mail it to the One-Stop Shop, P.O. Box 7129, Boise, Idaho 83707.
