Houses turned into training ground before Two birds with one stone... or in this case, two objectives with one fire. The Idaho Falls Fire Department capitalized on ITD's need to remove four homes for a new highway interchange, and in the process, gave firefighters valuable experience in fighting structure fires. ITD purchased the four homes as part of the Sunnyside Interchange project. Rather than using heavy equipment to raze the structures, ITD authorized the fire department to set the buildings ablaze and practice firefighting procedures before permanently removing the rubble. Before the buildings were turned into infernos, local law enforcement agencies also used them for SWAT (special weapons and tactics) training in hostage rescue.
