The Idaho Transportation Department earned six awards from the Idaho Press Club for public information projects and material produced in 2005. Awards were announced at the annual Press Club banquet May 6 in Boise. “The Transporter,” a weekly administrative newsletter produced by the ITD Public Affairs Office, garnered first-place among internal newsletters at the annual event, which recognizes the best of Idaho journalism and public relations activities. ITD’s 2005 Annual Report placed second, behind Blue Cross of Idaho’s report and ahead of the Idaho Housing and Finance Association report. Public Information Specialist Mel Coulter received second place in the feature story category for a Transporter article, “Dave Turner sees things for what they can become.” He also received third in the news release category. Darla Christiansen and the public affairs staff also won awards for media campaigns. Christiansen and the public affairs staff took first for the “511 Traveler Information” Campaign, while the public affairs staff took third place for work on the “Connecting Idaho” bill signing tour. The staff helped organize a whirlwind tour by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, who signed bills in seven locations in two days. The Idaho Press Club, an organization of professional journalists, has more than 200 members in chapters throughout Idaho.
