Alan Frew, who has served as acting administrator of ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles since May, has been appointed to the position permanently. Director Dwight Bower announced Frew’s selection this morning. A native of Pocatello, Frew began as a Port of Entry inspector at the Sage Junction POE north of Idaho Falls in 1985. Since then, he has served as a senior inspector, POE operations officer, program manager for a de-centralized POE under the Division of Highways, and beginning in 1997, as manager of a centralized POE when it was reorganized and moved to the Division of Motor Vehicles. Since May, the 21-year ITD veteran has split his time between managing Commercial Vehicle Services and DMV administrative duties. He succeeds Pam Lowe as division administrator. One of Frew’s challenges is overseeing the modernization
of DMV’s computer system. “We’re working on it a piece at a time with wonderful people at ITD and a great solutions planner in IBM. Our staff will provide the expertise and investment of time to make this a successful transition,” he said. “We’re seeking long-term solutions, but at the same time we want to be good stewards of the public’s money.” Jan, Frew’s wife of 28 years, is the deputy administrator at the Division of Public Works. They have four children, ages 9 to 27. Published 9-22-06 |
