Organization of the transportation department’s GARVEE Program Unit is nearly complete with the filling of several key positions, according to Nestor Fernandez, program administrator. Three ITD employees have been named as a nucleus of the GARVEE (Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle) Unit. Dave Jones has agreed to serve full-time as program engineer. Pam Golden has been named the contract/financial specialist, while Julie Gray will serve as an administrative assistant. Nestor said two other part-time positions have been approved, but the selection of personnel has not been finalized. The unit’s right-of-way coordinator will be a shared position with the ITD Right-of-Way section. The other unfilled part-time position is a communications coordinator. Fernandez occupies a temporary office within the Division of Motor Vehicles area, but expects to move to a new GARVEE Program office in Headquarters Room 119, off the main lobby, by the middle of November. “The department is fortunate to have such qualified people joining the GARVEE Program Unit,” Fernandez said. “They bring valuable experience to the program and will play a major role in its success. I look forward to working with them as the program moves forward.” Operating as part of the Division of Highways, the GARVEE unit will work closely with the Connecting Idaho Partners to administer the highway construction program.
