ITD's Division of Aeronautics, in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration, will co-sponsor a series of four Safe Pilot seminars on the use of aeronautical charts. The seminars will be held March 26 in Boise, March 28 in Twin Falls, March 29 in Idaho Falls and April 23 in Lewiston. "VFR Chart Smarts" is an interactive overview of visual flight rule charts and publications developed by experienced chart users for students and veteran pilots. Richard Neher of the FAA's National Aeronautical Charting Office will conduct the seminars. This seminar is designed to enhance visual flight rule navigation proficiency, chart understanding and safety while operating within the flight environment of the National Airspace System. Fast-paced, interactive and informative, the seminar covers airspace and altitude issues, how to avoid temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) and properly reading flight navigation charts. The seminars qualify for FAA Wings and are free, but seating is limited. Attendees should register on the SPANS link at www.faasafety.gov. For questions about the Lewiston seminar, contact the FAA in Spokane at 509-532-2375; questions concerning the other seminars should be directed to the Division of Aeronautics at (208) 334-8775.
