The Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) recently received a national award for its efforts to inform the public of its long-range plan for the region. COMPASS
delegates accepted the National Award for Outstanding Achievement in
Metropolitan Transportation Planning from the Association of Metropolitan
Planning Organizations (AMPO). The honor was presented at AMPO’s
annual conference earlier this month. COMPASS also was honored for its efforts to tie quantitative and qualitative evaluations of land use patterns to transportation needs associated with desired growth patterns, for involving the public in significant ways and for bringing community attention to the need for transportation and land-use integration. The award is one of several received for Communities in Motion the past year. Others included the 2007 Excellence in Transportation Award from the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), a bronze for a Public Service/Advocacy Multiple-Media Campaign from the International Summit Creative Awards and a first place for the CIM Web site (www.communitiesinmotion.org) from the Idaho Press Club.
