ITD offers free publications for bicyclists
Whether you are new to bicycling or are a seasoned veteran, ITD offers two free publications that will help you become a better and safer bicyclist. As gasoline prices steadily increase, more people are using bicycles for errands and their daily work commute. However, the changeover requires adjustments in daily routines. The Idaho Bicycle Commuter Guide is packed with information that will ease the transition and make bicycle commuting safer and more enjoyable. “Commuting by bicycle will save you money and quickly increase your fitness level,” said ITD Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Mark McNeese. Knowing and following the basic rules of the road and understanding how to comfortably and safely share the road with motor vehicles is the topic of Idaho Bicycling Street Smarts. This publication focuses on teaching bicyclists to ride safely in a variety of situations. ITD and the Ada County Highway District jointly funded the 48-page booklet. To order copies access the ITD web at itd.idaho.gov – click on “Bike/Pedestrian” and then “Bicycle Commuting and Idaho Bicycling Street Smarts.” Copies of the publications also may be obtained by contacting McNeese at (208) 334-8272 or mark.mcneese@itd.idaho.gov.
