JFAC orders 3 percent across-the-board salary reductions
In response to the continuing economic recession, the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee (JFAC) today voted 14-5 to reduce the salaries of all state workers by 3 percent, effective July 1, and ordered state agencies to reduce other personnel costs by 2 percent.
Combined, the personnel changes will achieve the 5 percent reduction in salary costs that Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter requested last week.
“We are aware of JFAC’s actions and will continue to monitor the process,” said ITD Director Pam Lowe. “We will do everything we can to minimize the impact of those additional cuts on employees.”
JFAC is scheduled to set the transportation budget Wednesday (March 25), and Lowe said she will keep employees informed of any new developments.
