I-way team explains emerging concept to governor

Key personnel in the development of Idaho's community-based mobility network had the opportunity recently to discuss the new program with Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter.

Heather Wheeler (Community Transportation Association of Idaho), Marilyn Sword (Interagency Working Group Chair), Kathleen Simko (PTAC Representative), and Randy Kyrias (ITD Division of Public Transportation) explained the vision, goals and processes of I-way.

During the meeting, the four shared the role of the local mobility networks, the District Coordination Councils, PTAC, IWG, ITD/PT and CTAI, and how each plays an important role in I-way’s effort to improve mobility in Idaho.

The meeting with Gov. Otter was a great opportunity to highlight the dedication of Idaho citizens, community leaders, transportation providers and other mobility partners who are identifying and prioritizing their community’s unique mobility needs, building partnerships and creating opportunities to improve service and efficiency throughout Idaho.

A number of opportunities and challenges were discussed during the meeting, including:

Adjust the legislated agency membership of the IWG through a revision to the statute;
The importance of working closely with the members of the Public Transportation Subcommittee to the Governor’s Taskforce on Modernizing Transportation Funding;
Recognition that the I-way message, brand, and logo should begin appearing in state publications and on signage to better inform the traveling public; and,
Explore possible legislative changes with the intent to assist organizations in overcoming possible liability challenges as they work to share and coordinate existing resources.

CTAI will continue to work with I-way partners, the Governor’s Office and the Public Transportation Subcommittee to ensure these opportunities and challenges are pursued through the correct local, legislative, and partner channels.

The increasing success and momentum of I-way comes as a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the many people on the ground every day providing service, developing plans, advocating for improvement, and making real change through coordination efforts.
