Online newsletter to offer interactive features
The Transporter will add several new features this year that focus on employee interests and contributions and that will make the weekly online newsletter more interactive.“Your Space” will provide employees an opportunity to ask questions related to transportation or ITD issues.  Another Transporter addition will enable employees to share information about their accomplishments or special interests or those of colleagues. See 'Your Space' below.

511 Traveler Services
District 4 snowplow 'pushes' use of 511
Santa’s reindeer found it easier to navigate winter storms in Idaho this year because of an enhanced 511 Traveler Services system. ITD promoted the traveler services system by displaying a banner on a snowplow blade in the annual Twin Falls Christmas Lights Parade earlier this month.

Employees
Online W-2 forms save time, improve security
ITD’s Human Resource Services received notification from the State Controller’s Office (SCO) regarding the availability of 2008 W-2 forms. All current employees and those in “terminated” status after December 31, 2007, have the ability to access their W-2 form on the Web.

Softball tournaments to resume this year
Based on the resounding success of two softball tournaments for state employees the past year, the Idaho Department of Lands is organizing two sequels for 2009 – a spring tournament on May 30 and a fall tournament on Sept. 5. The Saturday co-ed tournaments will consist of 2-4 games and will be scheduled for the Willow Lane  Athletic Complex in Boise.

Cruise control, slick highways aren't compatible
Idaho drivers who use their vehicle’s cruise controls on snow- and ice-covered roads and highways add to the risk of wintertime travel, according to a veteran maintenance engineer with the Idaho Transportation Department.

National campaign emphasizes emergency readiness
With the new year approaching, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Ready Campaign is reminding Americans to Resolve to be Ready in 2009. Resolve to be Ready is a nationwide effort designed to encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to take action and prepare for emergencies that could occur the new year.

Pre-winter's cold shoulder
Police officers share tips on safe driving
Kyle Wills and Ken Beckner know too well the impact winter weather can have on driving safely. They see the results on a daily basis – Wills from the seat of a Boise City Police motorcycle and Beckner from behind the wheel of a state police cruiser. The law enforcement officers brought their message of safe winter driving to ITD Headquarters Wednesday where about 50 employees turned out for a presentation sponsored by the Headquarters’ Safety Committee.

That simple, yet profound, advice came during a two-hour presentation on cyber security by Terry Pobst-Martin, Chief Technology Officer for the Idaho Department of Administration this week at ITD Headquarters.

ITD adds preparedness site to Intranet
Disasters can affect Idaho at any time of the year, swiftly and without warning. Most people don't think of a disaster until it is too late; then they suddenly realize how unprepared they are for the massive changes it makes in their lives. Local officials can be overwhelmed and emergency response personnel may not be able to reach everyone who needs help immediately
